Zaraz po takich pozycjach w dyskografii formacji, jak "Master Of Reality" czy "Vol. 4" pojawia się "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" - krążek pokazujący z goła inną naturę grupy, która jak dotąd (no może po za paroma wyjątkami z "Vol. 4") grała utrzymane w raczej średnim tempie gitarowe kompozycje, będące wspaniałymi sztandarami nowej fali brytyjskiego heavy metalu. Również i na "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" legendarni muzycy nie stronią od tego typu utworów, ale jak dla mnie jest to nieco eksperymentalny krążek w historii grupy, co wcale nie ujmuje mu pod względem merytorycznym. Dziewięć utworów znajdujących się na płycie otwiera tytułowy "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" - chyba najbardziej znane dzieło grupy. Prosty riff powtarzający się w kółko, od czasu do czasu przerywany akustycznymi wyciszeniami, wyciszeniami do tego wszystkiego jak zwykle nienaganny wokal Ozzy'ego i magiczna solówka w połowie drugiej minuty - to główne czynniki odpowiedzialne za sukces tego kawałka. Ale jak już mówiłem cały krążek to w gruncie rzeczy jeden wielki eksperyment, czego dowody możemy znaleźć już tym utworze, a zwłaszcza jego końcówce. Gitary brzmią tutaj dziwacznie, nieco psychodelicznie, co jest wyczuwalne zwłaszcza w ostatnich sekundach. Kolejny utwór o ciekawym tytule "A National Acrobat" to bardzo przyjemny w odsłuchu kawałek. Gitara brzmi tutaj typowo "sabbathowo", a wokal pozbawiony jest jakichkolwiek zgrzytów czy ozdobników. Bardzo podoba mi się również fakt, że kompozycja płynnie ewoluuje z etapu wokalno-muzycznego do samej muzyki, prezentując, co za tym idzie przepiękną i rozbudowaną solówkę. Następny kawałek, na który warto zwrócić uwagę to "Sabbra Cadabra". Pojawia się tutaj nieco bluesowa zagrywka, która raczej zapowiada kolejny standard tamtych lat. Jednak gitara przewodnia brzmi tutaj troszkę dziko, nie mówiąc o tym, co dzieje się dalej (2 minuta), kiedy to do głosu jest dopuszczany syntezator. Całość brzmi nietypowo i bardzo dziwnie, ale mimo to po mistrzowsku, więc nie zraża odbiorców. Ale to nie koniec niespodzianek. 3 minuta przynosi przesterowane wokalizy i akompaniament pianina. Końcówka utworu zaś brzmi zupełnie jakby Ozzy usiadł za konsoletą i zaczął, scratchować. Tak wielkiej niespodzianki nie doświadczyłem jeszcze nigdy przy odsłuchu wcześniejszych płyt Sabbathów. W poszukiwaniu kolejnych doznań chwyciłem za kolejny utwór o przewrotnym tytule "Killing Yourself To Live", który okazał się jednak pozbawiony niespodzianek. Grupa znowu powróciła do swojego klasycznego brzmienia zalewając nas energicznym wokalem i dość szybką zagrywką gitarową. Tradycyjnie solówki Iommiego okazały się tutaj nieodzowne. "Who Are You" - kolejny dziwoląg na płycie wita nas wstępem rodem z kosmosu. Syntezator brzmi tutaj nieziemsko i dosyć tajemniczo. Po dodaniu do tego perkusji i wokalu otrzymujemy w miarę chilloutowy kawałek o dość wolnym tempie. Wszystko jednak się zmienia, kiedy dochodzimy do połowy utworu, a przed naszymi oczami staje trącająca gotyckim zabarwieniem syntezatorowa ściana, z łatwością przebijana jednak znanym już "kosmicznym" dźwiękiem. Ciąg dalszy eksperymentów następuje na "Looking For Today" gdzie obok gitarowych riffów i jak zwykle świetnej perkusji pojawiają się odgłosy instrumentów dętych. Całość zakańcza przebojowa solówka, której melodia na długo zapada w ucho. Ostatnim nigdy wcześniej nigdzie niezamieszczanym utworem z płyty jest "Spiral Architekt" (w rzeczywistości płyta kończy się na koncertowej wersji utworu "Cornucopia"). Delikatny, akustyczny wstęp przeradza się tutaj z czasem w cięższą, pełną pasji grę. Przy okazji tego utworu mamy również do czynienia ze smyczkami, które idealnie wpasowują się w klimat całej kompozycji. Podsumowując "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" to kolejne dzieło legendarnych Brytyjczyków, którzy zamiast marnować swoje najpłodniejsze w pomysły lata, wykorzystali je do cna. Dowodem na to jest choćby ta płyta, wręcz ociekająca dowodami na to, że Sabbaci nie zamierzają poruszać się w jednym stylu i raczej zamiast statecznych gwiazd sceny muzycznej wolą etykietę prężnie rozwijającej się, zdolnej zaskoczyć swych fanów, grupy muzycznej. To tyle. Fani na pewno potwierdzą, że to wielka płyta. Wszystkim innym szczerze polecam. For the early albums, IIRC, there's WWA pressings which use the same stampers as the original Vertigos but are less expensive.
